Window Gallery: Jane Burton Taylor

Be aware of what climate change is doing to our bird life

Our latest installment for the Window gallery is Jane Burton Taylor.

Jane Burton Taylor is making us aware through her art pieces IN FLIGHT  & REDEEMING LOVE to the risks posed to birds and plants.

In Flight, a series of six archival prints, she has created a collage of whitewashed lantana roots -mirroring the pattern of an historic wallpaper from Rouse Hill Estate. The lantana pattern is populated by vulnerable birds from New South Wales. Each print is a photograph of an actual physical collage. The works are printed in a limited edition of 3. Each comes with a certificate of authentication and a list of the birds and plants represented within the print, along with their official status as vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered.

In Redeeming Love Jane has juxtaposed colonial images of vulnerable species with her own photographs of her immediate environment on the coast on traditional Gadigal Lands. This choice was made to evoke a more immediate and personal sense of the threat both to herself, and to others. The effect also references museum dioramas.
