“Your Story Of” – Sharing a thoughtful idea

"Capture Stories that keep Memories alive. Tributes at funerals and memorial services are heard by all, but the informal stories and memories shared later are only heard by a few. These gatherings are unique – never before and never again to happen in this exact composition – extended family, friends old and new, work colleagues, all those moved to be there find themselves sharing stories and feelings. What if these recollections and priceless insights could be captured? The greatest honour of all – never to be forgotten is the service offered by “Your Story Of” recording on video stories and memories. A small professional crew of two set up discreetly in a quiet spot and let people talk and tell their stories (with gentle guidance from me as the Director) Later you receive on a USB drive a professionally edited short video of these stories, together with all the interview footage, as well as the names,...

Efficiency

This month we are aiming to be extra efficient to support all the new product concepts and designs we have been working on. Understanding the why of any business is very important, but so is how efficiently you go about all the processes and systems. Efficiency relates to understanding your people, customers, systems, what new you need to learn, sharing, being open, exploring ideas and devising effective strategies. At Corban & Blair this applies to design, manufacturing, materials and inventory control. This is a constant task as things change and need to be updated and checked. March is our month for a close focus on how we are doing what we do. 5 lessons in efficiency for small business owners - https://www.huffingtonpost.com/brian-honigman/5-lessons-in-efficiency-f_b_3540697.html ...

New Yalanji Bowls have landed!

Made in Australia, individual and brimming over with authenticity and meaning, these small handcrafted ceramic bowls make functional yet uniquely decorative Australian gifts. Delicately handcrafted by Yalanji Arts, a group of Aboriginal artists from Mossman Gorge in Queensland, these bowls are sure to be remembered for their thoughtfulness. Each bowl comes packaged in a kraft gift box with the Yalanji story. Corban & Blair have been working with the Yalanji team for many years. The designs and colours change constantly and we are always delighted with the next collection. These bowls are made by hand by individual artists in the Arts Centre, so for large order quantities we need a 2-3 months lead time. View the collection here. Be best on LinkedIn

We came across Chris J Reed on the Basic Banana podcast Pick of the Bunch. Chris is based in Singapore and a crazy advocate (with a mohawk) of how to use LinkedIn. He has masses of ideas about how SME's can use it as a marketing tool. He believes it should be managed by communications people not HR. The pages need to be authentic, well written, accurate and communicate the business offering and its values. Images are also very important. Make sure all key words are used, share and have connections with your leads. Go to the podcast or get his book. "You are in charge of your own personal branding as an entrepreneur. Accordingly, if you wish to achieve great things in the business world, LinkedIn is the first logical place to start the process of building your personal brand . If you disregard the importance of branding, your ambitions are...

What was the past like?

In a recent tidy up we opened a box of items in our archive, all made in Australia, when such items could compete in the market against Asian imports. We had forgotten we had even designed these items. We are proud of these Corban & Blair products designed and made here by local manufactures, many of them no longer exist, as the global world has disrupted the way things were. To meet this challenge Corban & Blair is now a company that designs and manufactures bespoke products in Australian, New Zealand and China, mainly for the corporate sector. On a positive note, our bookbinding factory Boundrite, could keep work in Australia by being very streamlined and efficient in our production processes. We have other archive boxes to explore, that we keep as time capsules, so we can have another dip into our creative past and hopefully be inspired. ...

Smart Women helping other Women

Corban & Blair love positive smart ideas that help other people especially women. A good example is Blommer Tech who aim to transform how people understand their bodies via sensor technology. This will move treatments, medication, fitness and wellbeing from the current generalist treatment process to one that is user specific and individually focused. Sadly, cardiovascular disease is the number 1 killer of women and 64% of women who die suddenly of coronary heart disease have no previous symptoms. It is therefore imperative to have a tool that informs people in real time about their body and with machine learning prevent and improve the quality of life by really understanding what is going on in the body system. Blommer Tech’s Background The team connected by personal stories which are our motivation to tackle the cardiovascular disease problems. We are inspired by Amelia Bloomer's legacy, she is a women's rights advocate from the 1800's who transformed...
