Still Life Exhibition 2024 by Katarina Hackman

This Still Life exhibition presents portraits of fruit. Working in acrylic painted on canvas, different types of fruit are featured highlighting their unique characters and shapes. Uplifting and contrasting colours are used to imbue life into the fruit with shadows providing volume reflecting their distinctive energy. In this way, Katarina’s art practice utilises a colourist perspective to seek out the beauty and drama in fruit compositions to engage the viewer.

Katarina commenced her art practice in the 1990s focussing on printmaking, drawing and watercolour while also working full time in the corporate sector. Over the following 20 years she continued to study and develop her approach incorporating acrylic painting into her art practice and achieving many private sales. Since transitioning to retirement in late 2012 and with more time to devote to art, Katarina’s focus shifted to painting and drawing landscapes using water colour, ink and graphite. She participated in a series of successful group exhibitions selling artworks, also securing private commissions. While continuing to paint in watercolour, since 2019 Katarina’s art practice has concentrated on painting in acrylics on canvas, particularly Still Life, which is the focus of this exhibition, her fourth at the Corban & Blair Window Gallery.
